Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Victory also means he has secured 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

His retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform aggressively, supported by an better service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
